This Sydney retail institution has been sourcing quirky and eclectic children’s finds from across the globe since 1968. This week it opened the doors on its shiny, refurbished complex – which is positively heaving with gorgeous things for kids – we’re talking furniture, books, toys and more. We’ve taken a stroll through this stunner of a store – and here’s what we found…
If you frequent the Sydney suburb of Paddington, you’d have no doubt visited the iconic OPUS – which is Australia’s longest running gift and homeware store. OPUS has gone from strength to strength – so much so that an expansion was on the cards.
OPUS has just revealed its impressive two-level store right in the heart of Paddington, ensuring there’s plenty of space to show off its incredible collection of goodies. Acclaimed designer Richard Williamson has given new life to the original heritage building – turning it from a one storey boutique into a stunning two storey space. While the traditional charm of the exterior remains, the spacious modern interior makes for a brilliant shopping experience – especially with kids in tow.
The walls, shelves and tables are adorned with beautiful, specifically-sourced finds from all corners of the world. Owner Chris Tourgelis has four children under four (that’s two sets of twins!), so he has a passion for sourcing the unusual, the unique, in a bid to entertain and educate children. He says, “Our beautiful new store is a shining light in Paddington and has been designed to be the leading gift and homeware store in Australia. We wanted to put our brand and our beloved Paddington back on the map with this bold new development and we are looking forward to sharing our vision with our loyal fans and new customers”.
Not only is the two level story aesthetically pleasing, it’s also pram friendly, with a ramp on level one and a rather gorgeous lift to get you up to level two.
The new store is sophisticated and stylish, with something beautiful to look at in every corner. The kids will absolutely love exploring the hundreds of children’s products. And so will you.
If you’re keen to take a leisurely wander through the OPUS Design Co. store, it’s located at 354 Oxford St, Paddington. If you’re not a Sydneysider, fear not – there are plenty of amazing things to be found online at OPUS.
