Nursery wallpaper that’s as cute as a button

My grandmother had the most amazing button tin when I was growing up, with literally hundreds and hundreds of buttons in all shapes and sizes that must have taken her years to collect. She had plain buttons and fancy buttons, buttons made from wood, buttons made from pearl, bone buttons, glass buttons, buttons shaped like flowers and even buttons emblazoned with tiny elephants. It was button heaven!

Every so often she’d let me pour the contents out onto the floor and riffle through them. It didn’t matter which button I picked from the pile, she always knew exactly the garment it had once belonged to – the blouse she’d been wearing the day she met my grandfather, the shirt he had on the day he proposed or the dress my own mother had worn on her first day of school! Over the years I’ve often wondered what became of her beloved button tin. Well, if I didn’t know better, I’d say it ended up in this curiously quirky Button Wallpaper from Studio Ditte.

Sure, it may not be the most imaginative name we’ve ever heard to describe a product but really, when you think about it, what else could they have called it!! And while the name might seem dull at first, the design of this wallpaper most definitely is not. Look close and you’ll see it’s made up of hundreds and hundreds of vintage buttons found hidden in attics and forgotten in the backs of cupboards all over Europe. Cute as a button, don’t you think?

Button Wallpaper is designed and made in Holland and costs €135 per roll. Indulge your own button fetish and contact Studio Ditte direct to arrange delivery to Australia so you can hang it in your baby’s nursery in all its pastel-coloured glory.
