One hundred product testing kids can’t be wrong: the Leeluu nightlight is a brilliant weapon in the battle against bad dreams.
Leeluu is a soft, nightlight cuddle toy whose fabric is woven with sensors that respond to the touch. When shadows in bedrooms seem to grow, and the family dog starts to look more like a kid-eating monster than a dog, kids can give Leeluu a squeeze and a magical shadow-chasing, monster-repelling light comes on. Pat its back to dim the light to the perfect brightness, and happy dreams are bound to follow.
Created in Finland, Leeluu comes in the form of a cuddly cat, a sleepy owl or a rolly polly hedgehog. The designers consulted with 100 kids to design the look, and the functionality of the nightlight. Leeluu’s charming animals with their colourful handdrawn faces and features are inspired by children’s drawings that give Finnish designer Marimekko a run for its money.
The designers have thought carefully about kids using Leeluu in real life, and have added a childproof zipper to the cover so that it can be removed and washed. It’s also easy to charge with a micro-USB cable so Leeluu’s monster-fighting powers stay in tip top condition.
Leeluu is raising money through Indiegogo. For €69 an early bird nightlight will make its way to your home in December 2016. The early bird special to get double the Leeluus is sold out, but you can still get a pair for €129. If you send the company an email, it can arrange shipping to Australia.
