Books, books and more books. We all love them but books seem to overtake every child’s bedroom or play area and there’s never enough space for all of them. Some invariably end up being stuffed in a drawer (we currently have quite a few stored in an upside down rocking log!). But none of this is quite convenient for encouraging reading.
That’s why I’m totally loving the Book Porcupine from UK designer Holly Palmer. Designed to sit next to a reading chair, I think it would also be sublime placed just about anywhere. It can house books of varying shapes and sizes on all four sides and can sit in the middle of a playroom so littlies can reach it from any angle.
The concept behind the creation is one of negative spaces, which I find quite unique. When a book is removed, the coloured space where it sat is revealed. The bookcase is not cheap at £950 but would be a forever piece.
To purchase a Book Porcupine for your tot’s book collection, head to the Holly Palmer website and email her for shipping prices to Australia. While you’re there, don’t forget to check out the divine ‘Tea Party’ tea cup stool pictured below!
