There’s a distinct back-to-nature trend when it comes to decorating nurseries and children’s bedrooms. Here’s a lamp to take your woodland themed nursery to a stunning new level.

It’s the cracked log lamp, by young Tasmanian designer and furniture craftsman Duncan Meerding. Beautiful, isn’t it?

Duncan, who lost his sight six years ago, crafts these amazing lamps from salvaged logs that would otherwise end up stoking someone’s wood burner.

He hollows out the logs and uses the naturally occurring splits to allow the light to spill through, creating what to us seems the perfect muted amount of light for a nursery or child’s bedroom.

They can be mounted on a wall, placed on a dresser, or simply left on the floor and, like any lamp, plug into a standard wall socket. We especially love how no two lamps are the same, making for a very original statement nursery decor piece.

Each handcrafted cracked log lamp costs $280. The lamps are available online direct from Duncan Meerding and from other selected Australian stockists.
