Babies should spend time each day on the floor as they grow, practising how to roll, then sit and crawl. Trouble is, many modern floors aren’t so baby friendly. Wooden boards, tiles, slate – they’re all rather hard and unforgiving against a fragile baby head. That’s where CorkiMat comes in handy.
The mats, made in the US by play mat company Pillobebe, come in the form of a tile and you can buy packs of four, six or nine. You can also buy extra tiles to cover the surface you need. Each tile is just under 50x50cm and sits about 3cm off the ground.
There are various designs (and design combinations) to choose from, including forest friends, cars, caravans and mint or yellow pebbles.
Each tile is easily connected by anti-slip velcro strips, which means the mats have more uses than you would think. For example, you can make tunnels and toy bins or even put them together as a yoga mat.
The CorkiMat is recommended for ages three months and above. Each tile has a removable organic cotton cover for easy washing and the padding, which is water resistant, is made of natural cork, bamboo fibres and organic cotton. (The padding should be wiped clean instead of washed.)
The mats are free of all the normal nasties, including PVC, Phthalates, and lead.
