2. Switch off
TVs and computers humming away on standby mode are still using pricey power, so make sure you turn these appliances off if you’re keen to penny pinch. It only takes a little longer to reboot them when they’re completely powered down and your hip pocket will thank you for it.
Same goes for lights. You don’t need to light rooms you are not occupying. Yes, it feels cosier, but it’s a big waste of energy and an unnecessary cost.
Even washing machines and kettles are using power in standby mode, so if it’s possible unplug them when you’re not going to be using them.
