The Mast Humidifier – no electricity required

Humidifiers. We all need them during winter and in the months before and after, no matter where we reside in Australia. Looks and functionality wise, they tend towards the downright ugly and hard to keep clean variety. Our house just went through our fourth one in as many years and I have to say I absolutely despise the plastic, bacteria-loving unattractive monostrosities. Not to mention the electricity they zap up.

That’s why this remarkable beauty from Japan is going straight on my wishlist for this Christmas. Aptly named the Mast Humidifier, it reminds me of a sailboat with its sails gently opened from the breeze. Designed by Shin Okada and crafted by Masuya Koubou, it’s created from thinly sliced pure Hinoki – Japanese Cypress – which is rot-resistant, of exceptional quality and known for its lemony scent.

Simply fill the bottom with water and the wood absorbs it, diffuses it into the air and without any electricity or incessant humming noise, you have a delightful natural scent with some much-needed moisture wafting through your house. Wonderful!

To purchase the Mast Humidifier for your family, head to Gizmine (ships straight from Japan) where it’s priced at US$119.99 plus postage to Australia. Also check out our past features on other stylish humidifiers.
