Think of something, anything, that’s related to kids. Chances are, there’s an app for it. While some apps border on bizarre and others are completely useless, here’s one very important app that every parent should have.

Keeping Baby Safe app is a just-released government app for iPhones and iPads that promises to help do just what the name suggests – keep baby safe.  It’s designed especially for Australian parents to help them make safe choices when selecting infant and nursery products, including cots, high chairs, prams, change tables, bath toys, dummies and more.

The app, from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, is free and tells parents what to look for when buying, borrowing or hiring baby equipment and, importantly, what to avoid. It includes important information about warnings and dangers for specific products, so parents can always have up-to-date information when shopping for the nursery.

There’s also easy-to-follow tips on safety around the home, tips for using just about every type of baby product safely and a direct in-app link to report unsafe products to authorities.

Find ACCC’s Keeping Baby Safe on iTunes. A printable booklet about child safety is also available on the ACCC website. The ACCC is a government regulator responsible for protecting consumer rights.
