The lovely folk at Big W are gifting books to little readers and the first free book is in store right now.

Bringing books to little bookworms

Free Books for Kids is an encore performance of the program which did so well back in February.

Customers can snap up a new FREE chapter book in-store for the next eight weeks, with more than 2 million free books ready to be handed out during the national campaign.

The books have been carefully curated to suit kids aged from five to eight years of age.

The eight free titles – which are written and illustrated by clever and creative Australian – were chosen specifically to support local authors and appeal to local kids. Covering experiences that will be familiar to country, city and indigenous children these chapter books are sure to strike a chord with little readers.

Meredith Drake from Big W explains that the company simply wants to make great books accessible to all Australian children.

“At the heart of Free Books for Kids is encouraging more families to enjoy reading together, more often,” Meredith says.

So how can you take advantage of this brilliant offer?

It’s as easy as one, two, three:

  1. Pop into Big W.
  2. Ask the store’s greeter for this week’s book.
  3. Enjoy the lovely new book with your child.

You don’t need to buy anything to get the book, but stocks are limited, so getting in promptly is a good idea.

Free books for rural kids, too!

If you don’t live near a Big W store, your child may still be able to benefit from this excellent initiative.

Big W is partnering with the charity organisation, Good 360, to deliver thousands of books to 100 remote schools across the country.

Good360 founder Alison Covington is thrilled to be helping more kids get reading.

“All Australian children should have the chance to enjoy reading books. We are very excited to be partnering with BIG W to extend this fantastic initiative to remote communities, getting more books into the hands of more children.”
