First pic: Princess Charlotte is 2 today (and is not a baby anymore!)

Duchess Kate and Prince William with Baby Charlotte

Princess Charlotte celebrates her second birthday today, and this portrait – taken by her mum Kate, The Duchess of Cambridge – captures the slightly uneasy gaze of quite a grown-up little girl. Kate has already gone on the record to reveal her daughter rules the roost. This photo is further proof that sassy Charlotte will suffer zero fools.

Familiar faces

No longer a baby-faced toddler, Charlotte displays a slightly raised brow and exhibits a mashup of her mum and dad’s cutest features.

Some are noticing some other familiar characteristics in the little Princess’s portrait too –  a resemblance to her grandmother Princess Diana (the soulful eyes!) and her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth (the determined mouth!) have been flagged numerous times on Instagram, where the royals posted the portrait several hours ago.

Candid camera

The portrait was released to mark the little princess’s second birthday – which is today, the 2nd of May – as Kate continued her favoured tradition of releasing more candid, personal snaps to mark special occasions.

We kind of LOVE it that Charlotte’s not being forced to smile nor being coaxed into some kind of formal portrait fiasco. We’re also noticing something we hadn’t conceptualised until today – #CardiganGoals!

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to share a new photograph of Princess Charlotte to mark her second birthday tomorrow. 🎈

The photograph was taken in April by The Duchess at their home in Norfolk.

The Duke and Duchess are very pleased to share this photograph as they celebrate Princess Charlotte’s second birthday.

Their Royal Highnesses would like to thank everyone for all of the lovely messages they have received, and hope that everyone enjoys this photograph of Princess Charlotte as much as they do.  (source – Kensington Royal Instagram account)

Popular bunch

This cute shot of a nearly-smiling Charlotte is the latest in a series of more natural, relatable family photos the royals have shared on their official Instagram accounts.

This refreshing, much more down-to-earth approach to media representation has seen the young royal couple’s popularity soar of late – as has their commitment to tackle big issues such as mental health, HIV and environmental conservation.

We wish the littlest Royal a very happy birthday! Congrats to her mum and dad on raising this clever cookie!
