“Boil water, fetch clean towels!”: 10 of the most unrealistic on-screen births
If you relied on TV dramas to educate you about birth, you might never realise that a) not every woman’s labour begins with waters breaking, b) placentas exist, and c) babies do not come out the size of a chubby four-month-old tot!
Here’s some of the most unrealistic births we’ve had the pleasure of chomping popcorn to. Expect women lying on their backs and a sudden urge to boil water and rummage for clean towels.

2. The Blue Lagoon birth
Granted, Brooke Shields’ character does seem to be in a lot of pain, but The Blue Lagoon teaches us that if you sit under a palm tree when you’re in labour, a baby will eventually come out and you can just be a family and nude about on a desert island again. What about the umbilical cord? Where is the placenta? Tell meeeeee!
