It’s already been and gone folks, in the blink of an eye! Whilst most of the team would have donated a bodypart to be right there in the thick of the action, it was Jacqui who got the honours and she was mightily impressed by this compact, but effective trade show.
The Playtime phenomenon has very quickly become one of the most respected child-centered trade shows in the world for its hand-picked quality brands. The event was in a cool old warehouse in Soho which gave it a funky vibe. The exhibitors were all showing spring/summer and the general trend leaned towards woven shirts and dresses in amazing prints – some bold, a bunch of liberty prints and some sweet and subtle. Here are the ones we absolutely loved!
A is for Apple (above top left) was inspired by the rainforest and featured high-tech fabrics. Presenting fantastic woven dresses, tops and bags was Kit and Lili (above top right) – this is fun, easy dressing at its very best. Bakker (above bottom left and right) showcased a great knit collection that looked so stylish!. It was so soft and would be awesomely comfy.
Sugar Town maternity (above left) had fun printed wovens to add flair to a maternity wardrobe.
One of the most exciting things Jacqui saw at Playtime New York was a brand called Supereditions – a French company which sells books containing just the text of funny stories, leaving room for children to do the illustrations. Jacqui was lucky enough to receive one from the owner and her kids spent the morning illustrating a great story which they just loved! It is such a simple idea and uses quality paper so the book is always for keeps.
Love this label much? We sure do! Kicokids is a colourful adventure into children’s apparel with its bright colours and playful prints. Worthy of a special mention are its Artisti-kits (below) which help out four charities.
Check out the groovy garments from Wovenplay. Hand-crafted or hand-finished in Manhattan, Wovenplay draws from the past to make eco-conscious playwear for contemporary kids. We love these super-quirky looks so full of humour and mirth!
We just love unisex attire for the kidlets and ESP No.1 is providing it! A departure from the usual unisex clothing most often from Scandinavia, ESP focuses on relaxed-fit fashion with the timeless cool factor.
It’s been all fashion, fashion, fashion so far but how about food time! There’s nothin’ not to love about these hip and happening So Young Mother lunch bags. They’ll be proud to show off these beauties at daycare or school.
We’ve fallen head over heels for this divine Honeyami Honeycomb quilt. It’s Oeko-Tex certified and also available in white. We think it’s the bees knees!
The selection from Paris-based label Lamantine is positively ethereal. Silky, smooth, muted – the ultimate in luxe fashion. You almost can’t tell these floaty numbers are kid-sized!
Ok this little set up is just adorable. Who wouldn’t want to go camping with these little adventurous fellas? I’m just hoping that white mouse is taking a nap and hasn’t been run over by the pooch in the car! The softies are by Moulin Roty whose products we’ve featured before. The lookbook is well worth a squiz – I’m loving the vintage wooden plane. Delish!
Look at the adorable vintage style of New York’s Little Lief. The floaty garments are made from organic muslin gauze using low impact dyes. Dreamy.
We hope you enjoyed our roundup of the cream of the crop from Playtime New York! We can’t wait until the next Playtime unearths more uncommon goodies.
