I have friends who make gorgeous clothing for their kids, and for a long time I’ve wished to be able to do the same. But while my sewing machine sits idly in the spare room waiting for me to take a beginner sewing class and fumble my way through the most basic of patterns, I’ve realised that there are amazing online stores filled with handmade kids clothing to save me the effort!
Canadian-based Sweet Jane Studio is one such store, and boy are the clothes adorable! We featured Sweet Jane back in 2013 and since then, designer Crystal Tracy has launched her own website and expanded into homewares as well. As a mum of three little girls (and baby boy on the way!) I am thrilled to see gorgeous clothes that don’t pretend kids are simply mini-adults.
Of course, with three girls, I am drawn to the dresses. I love that the Sweet Jane Studio clothes are made to last and be handed down from child to child (and in my family, this represents excellent value!)
The Sweet Jane Studio tunics are a lovely A-line shape and come with cute appliqué pictures from vintage fabrics on the front. They are lined, and fit loosely enough to be worn as a long top as your little girl grows. Made from cotton they can be worn year round, cool in summer and plenty of room for layering in winter.
While I’m not a ‘cat person’, the vintage red cat dress is all kinds of cute, and I have one little girl who would love a bunny dress… perhaps a cute Easter gift idea! The dresses are available in sizes 1 through to 5 for US$52.
Crystal also works her appliqué magic on baby onesies, t-shirts and cardigans, and many of them are completely unisex, so ideal to be handed on to siblings, cousins and friends.
Sweet Jane Studios ship to Australia. Onesies and t-shirts are US$28 and cardigans are US$32.
