Chook Leaf – handmade shoes for the slow fashion movement

We’ve seen slow kids’ fashion in the form of handmade knits, slow toy-making, and now slow footwear. While footwear that actually makes kids slow down might be handy, we’re talking about footwear where every element is carefully chosen and designed, footwear which is hand sculpted, worked and stitched over two months to craft the perfect pair for growing feet.

Designed in Australia and made of buttery soft lambskin, Chook Leaf is one such creator of gorgeous, slow footwear in the form of bright, comfortable shoes for girls and women. These are shoes which are sturdy without being clunky, comfortable without being frumpy.

Chook Leaf Peeptoe

Take for example the Peak Piped Circle Buckle Shoe ($114)  with the white piping detail. These shoes would look lovely with a party dress or with leggings for the playground. They come in primary hues – navy, yellow or red – with a dainty circle buckle in the centre of the ankle strap.

Chook Leaf Circle Buckle

For a more traditional Mary Jane style, the Circle Buckle Shoes ($90) have a rounded toe and a strip of white leather finishing the shoe and attaching the leather to a flexible rubber sole. These shoes come in lemon yellow or mint, but if you think of another colour you’d like, or your child’s size is out of stock, get in touch. They’ll make you a special pair.

Chook Leaf is available online and Express Post within Australia is $9.90. Because the shoes are handmade, they take eight to 10 weeks to ship, so make sure you account for the crazy fast rate at which kids’ feet grow when you’re ordering.
