Ever fallen in love across a crowded room? You know how it goes. Something striking catches your eye so you look again, then suddenly, bang – you’re head over heels and can’t imagine life without the object of your affections. That’s what happened when I chanced across kids’ fashion newcomer A Little Pocket.
Completely original and completely fabulous in every possible sense of the word, A Little Pocket is kids fashion at its absolute, edgy best. Young Melbourne designer Laura Natale has crafted a collection that will have your kids looking ever-so-cool in the playground while going about their normal, everyday kid business. Check those Lazy Tac pants up there on the right, teamed with the rather aptly named Handsome jacket – I bet there’s more than a few of you wishing they came in grown-up sizes! Alas, they are strictly for the kids, along with the rest of A Little Pocket’s designs, in sizes to fit from two to eight years.
What I love so terribly much about A Little Pocket’s inaugural winter collection is that the clothes don’t just look good – and face it, who can argue with that – but they’re practical for kids too. So there’s lots of unisex leggings and roomier harem style pants to pair with stunning dresses and cardigans for girls, while boys get to match them with a marvellous selection of funky tops, all with plenty of stretch and room inside to make them a no-brainer for play, no matter how active or boisterous it gets.
Now here’s the bit where I make you fall in love too. Take a closer look at the designs. They don’t just look good from afar. Laura is a stickler for detail and the fabrics are truly beautiful while at the same time being completely comfortable. There’s no scratchy bits, no pinchy bits and no too-hard-to-do-up zippers for kids to wrangle. And here’s another plus – each piece is made right here in Australia. If it sounds like I’m raving, I can’t help myself. Smitten, I am.
If you want to exclaim in rapturous wonder over these garments in person and live anywhere near Brunswick, you can find them at A Branch of Treetop in Sydney Rd. For everyone else, A Little Pocket has an online store too, and the winter range has just been launched today.
