Hands down, the thing I find hardest about working as a writer for Babyology is consistently discovering amazing clothes and shoes for children which do not come in adult sizes. There are really no words to describe the frustration. Come with me on a journey where that problem gets a whole lot worse.
I was a teenager in the 90s, which means for almost a whole decade of my life I wore a certain English brand of leather boot, to the exclusion of all other footwear. This might explain why the discovery of Chapter 2 Kids feels almost nostalgic to me. You see, Chapter 2 makes amazing leather footwear for children aged from four to 10. Designers and shoemakers, husband and wife team Fay and Tom, are English too.
The philosophy behind Chapter 2 is that luxury isn’t just for grownups – and they’ve certainly achieved luxury status with their new Spring/Summer collection for 2015 – a range of shoes that are beautiful while still lots of fun. The inspiration for the collection was an exhibition by artist Martin Creed, mixed with what Chapter 2 call “a hint of vintage boxing”. The amazing shoes that resulted are made from hand painted buffalo leather in dazzling bright colours that kids will love to wear.
The shoes have leather lining and leather soles too (although they also have a thoughtful rubber cloud on the sole to stop slipping), and are handcrafted in England in Chapter 2’s own workshop. Each style in this collection is available in both ankle boot and oxford styles. Harking back to my teenage years, I think my favourites are the Emerald Leopard boots.
Of course, a pair of handmade leather shoes don’t come cheaply, and prices at Chapter 2 start at £145. Given that the shoes are all unisex in style though, you could probably pass them along to a number of children, which makes them much more reasonable. Check out the whole range and buy directly at Chapter 2 Kids.
