1. Avoid risky foods
Babies and toddlers don’t have the robust immune systems most adults do, so they can be at greater risk of food poisoning or other health complications. Don’t give your child:
- Unpasteurised foods and drinks.
- Raw or partly cooked eggs (or mayonnaise).
- Raw or undercooked fish or shellfish.
- Raw sprouts.
- Raw or partly cooked meats or chicken.
- Honey (prior to 12 months of age).
Also?
- Be sure to wash fruit and vegetables before you use them.
- Don’t put cooked food on the same surface where raw food has been.
- Don’t rinse raw chicken as it spreads bacteria across the kitchen. Cooking chicken will remove any potentially dangerous germs.
