“Dear Mummy, this is what I really want you to know when I’m sick”

Mummy, Mummy, I want you. I really need to cuddle you. I don’t know why. I just do. I don’t feel like playing anymore …

I love your lap

I’m two, but right now I want to be your tiny baby again so I will climb up onto your lap. I love your lap. It’s my safe place. It’s where I can collapse into you and you will feel whatever I’m feeling.

I don’t know why but I need you to mummy me more than you usually do. I need you to pat my bottom and give me a little rock. Ah, that’s better. I love you Mummy.

But, wait, I still don’t feel good

Mummy, something is wrong, but I don’t have my words yet to tell you. Instead, I will talk to you in our own special language. I will nuzzle my head into you and be wrapped up in your mummy smell. I love how you smell, it’s so reassuring and comforting to me.

I know if I whine, whimper and cling to you like a koala, that you will read me. You’ll figure out what’s wrong.

And you do

Now you are looking at me differently. You aren’t smiling. You’ve “heard” me. You keep placing the back of your hand on my forehead. Why do you keep doing that, Mummy?

My skin feels like sherbet, all fizzy and tingly though. Can you feel it too? Mummy, what’s wrong with me?

My everything

When I feel like this, I just want you. But Mummy, please don’t get up and leave me.

Mummy! Where are you going? Mummy, noooo! Come back! I need you. OK, I will follow you crying until you scoop me up.

I’m so tired

Oh, you were just getting me that yummy strawberry stuff in the tube. I think you call it medicine, but all I know is it tastes like a lollypop and, yawn. Mummy I’m so tired. Please cuddle me again. Please keep rocking me, just like you have all of my life.

I know I look sad, and I am sad, I feel all hot and everything hurts, but right now I am looking at you and I know everything is going to be OK.

I can’t keep my eyes open any longer. But I know you are holding me.

Mummy, help!

Mummy, how did I get in my cot? Where are you? Oh, there you are at the door! You must have heard me before I even called out for you.

I’m awake. Oh, but now all this smelly stuff is coming out of my mouth. Yuck. I don’t like it, so I will cry.

Can you please clean me up?

Thanks Mummy. I feel better now in my clean and warm monster PJs.

I still feel tired though and I don’t feel like playing or eating, but you seem to just know what I need. You give me a sippy cup of water and you even switch on Peppa Pig for me!

Thanks Mummy. I love Peppa Pig. George is my favourite, and Mr Dinosaur. Roar.

I want you to know

I know I am hard work when I’m sick, but I want you to know that I love how you take care of me during these times.

Mummy you are my everything. I feel so loved and looked after by you today, especially today.

And so I want to say thank you.

I will give you My Mr Dinosaur toy to cuddle, that will show you.

I love you Mummy.
