Just because your baby grows out of their cot, doesn’t mean you have to get rid of it. After all, many cots are stylish pieces of furniture in their own right – not to mention their sentimental value.

A look around Pinterest unearths all kinds of creative ways parents and DIY buffs have converted cots into other furniture and household items.

Seats are a popular choice for recycling cots, such as this sweet chair built from a vintage crib by Texan antique store Backroads Pickers:

The Owner Builder Network shared these cleverly converted, painted bar stools:

For something really different, how about this swinging porch chair featured on the Southern Hospitality blog:

Gail at My Repurposed Life added some extra timber to a cot headboard and footboard to make this corner bench (she also built the table):

Desks are another popular way to reinvent cots – and best of all, it means kids don’t have to part with them just yet. Alicia Parsons of Atypical Type A points out that the desk below may be a little impractical given its lack of leg room – but nevertheless it may be a worthy addition to a study as a workbench or storage space:

More user-friendly for little is A Little Learning for Two‘s desk at the very top of this post, which even has a blackboard surface. Or you could try something like this desk, paired with a plexi top and Ikea chairs:

If you love outdoor entertaining, fashion your cot into a hutch like this one featured by The Consignment Sale Queen:

Of course there’s no reason cots can’t continue to provide a resting place for kids even when they’re too big to sleep in them. Pinner Iain Griffith-Jones has added bunting, fairy lights and draped sheets to build this comfy hidey-hole:

Or turn it upside down to make a toy storage and play area such as this originally pinned by mwwah.com.au:

New forms of transportation always go down a treat with kids, so how about this beautiful little blue picnic wagon made by Cami from Tidbits:

Cot bases can be converted into various types of wall hangings, such as a photo frame holder or daily planner blackboard by Not On The High Street. Others have hung them on walls to store pots and pans or as a magazine rack:

The end panels of a vintage cot were used to make this chalkboard seen on fleaChic:

We found dozens more ways to reuse cots – from a veggie trellis to a pot plant holder, shoe rack to clothes drying rack, bird coop to dog bed. All it takes is a little elbow grease and imagination.
