These wings are a family favourite at our place. They’re super easy to make and taste brilliant hot or cold the next day.

Amazingly delicious oven-baked chicken wings recipe

  • 1kg of chicken wings – each wing should be cut into three at the joint and the tips thrown out – I just do this with a big pair of scissors and some muscle
  • 40g of salted butter
  • 1 tablespoon of Dijon (or other mild) mustard
  • 3 tablespoons of tomato sauce (aka ketchup!)
  • 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of vinegar – I used red wine vinegar, but any kind will do
  • Salt and pepper
  • Optional: sliced spring onions or chives to garnish

Method

Feeds a family of four for dinner with a salad and/or rice on the side.  This recipe makes enough for around 5 ‘wing bits’ each, so if you’re hungrier types than that, I suggest doubling the recipe.

  • Mix all the ingredients (except wings!) in a pot over a low heat until combined.
  • Pour the heated sauce over the wings and toss well.
  • Line a large baking tray with baking paper. Pop the wings on the paper.
  • Bake in a 200 degree Celsius oven for around 35 minutes or so, flipping them over halfway through. They are ready to eat when they’re caramelising nicely.
  • Garnish with chives or spring onions (if you like!) and allow them to cool a bit, before you smack your lips and GOBBLE THEM UP!

Notes

Variations:

  • Add a tablespoon of Sriracha if your family likes it spicy (mine do!)
  • Add a tablespoon of honey if you’d like your wings on the sticky side.
  • Add a tablespoon of sesame seeds if you are feeling that way inclined.
  • Make an extra kilo of chicken wings – and double the sauce ingredients – and you’ll have school lunch boxes and after-school snacks sorted for a couple of days!
