Smiling Planet plates are the earth friendly choice for child-friendly dinnerware.
The plates are made from 100 per cent re-purposed, high-grade polypropylene plastic that contains no BPA, phthalates, lead or toxic inks. That information is of interest to parents, but will mean nothing to kids.
Kids will like the delicate, kind of quirky illustrations on the plates including elephants linking trunks and tails with whales and crocodiles, fairies flying above the earth and a lion strumming a guitar by a river. Some of the combinations of creatures seem unlikely but that’s precisely what will make you smile and, according to the designers at Smiling Planet, smiles are good for the planet too.
There are things about Smiling Planet plates that makes the mummy in me smile. I really like the decent rim on the plates to stop spillages. I’m all for encouraging independence in the kids but not such fan of cleaning up the trail of grapes or sultanas that is left on the floor after my two year old helpfully carries her plate, always at an angle just right for spilling. I’m also quite partial to one of the designs that simply says “Make your mother happy”….what a lovely message at the bottom of a clean plate!
Smiling Planet also makes other earth-friendly things for kids including placemats, posters, books and t-shirts, all featuring the finely drawn illustrations.
Plates are US$12.99. Smiling Planet ship to Australia.
