I’ve mentioned my personal mission to find cool melamine designs that don’t include mainstream kids characters previously on Babyology (gee whiz, I feel like such a mum using the words ‘cool’ and ‘melamine’ in the same sentence…). On discovering La Plates, I may well be able to say mission accomplished.
La Plates create melamine plates that are personalised to the last detail. You pick the pattern, font, colours and monogram or message and the combinations are endless. There are lots of designs specifically for kids, including soccer balls, polka dots and animal prints, although I think any of the patterns would please, especially if kids get to see their own name on the plate.
The La Plates site includes some useful information about monogram etiquette, some fun links to celebrity fans (apparently Tori Spelling recently used La Plates to deck out the table at her son’s birthday party) and a gallery of good design ideas.
Plates are US$22 each but can only be shipped within the US so you would have to use a freight forwarder. I’m thinking a family set of retro red and white gingham with a big black ‘W’ might be just the ticket for next summer’s barbeques.
