It all started with a spelt pancake lion. Now Melbourne mother Laleh Mohmedi has turned her food artistry into a business.
Breakfast to business
For Laleh Mohmedi, preparing beautiful, healthy dishes for her three-year-old son Jacob, came naturally. But one day, for a bit of fun, she styled his spelt pancakes into a lion and posted a photo on Facebook. Without realising it, that was the moment Laleh’s future business, Jacob’s Food Diaries was born.
Cast of characters
Since then, Laleh’s gone on to create dizzying food sculptures of popular characters from movies like Madagascar, Moana and Alice in Wonderland (to name a few). For any mother who has laboured over a basic ham and cheese sandwich, these pics are truly jaw-dropping. Look closely, and you’ll see a zebra made from sushi rice and salmon, a Red Queen built out of cream cheese and funghus, and yes … that’s Ellen’s mashed potato face.
Life-changing meals
Not surprisingly, the reactions to Laleh’s creations have been monumental. She now has over 83,00 Instagram followers (including Jamie Oliver), and she’s been profiled by publications and talk shows around the world. While she used to work in the field of medical equipment, she now dedicates her time to making food sculptures and presents workshops on healthy eating.
A creative approach to food
Perhaps the most inspiring thing is that Laleh uses her skills to teach her son Jacob about healthy eating. All of her creations are made out of unprocessed, sugar-free ingredients, and Laleh says she gets to bond with her son over the food sculptures and talk about the ingredients together. The lucky little guy even gets to choose the characters.
