As a mum you want to try and make nice treats for special occasions – just like Aussie actress Isla Fisher who attempted a cute gingerbread and candy turkey for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, in this instance it most certainly did not look like the picture on the box, and it is the most relatable #mumfail.
A family celebration
Thanksgiving is huge for families over in the US, where Isla (AKA small ginger ninja) and her funnyman actor hubby Sacha Baron-Cohen live with their two daughters 10-year-old Olive, six-year-old Elula, and two-year-old son Montgomery. So it’s no wonder that the Home and Away alumni turned Hollywood comedy actress and children’s book author, thought she’d get creative in the kitchen and win some brownie points with her kids.
Perhaps by buying a packet kit Isla thought she was going to nail this baking project with her eyes closed. Sadly, not even a deceptively simple kit could help her. Thankfully the mum of three’s humour was firmly intact when sharing her #mumfail cooking disaster on Instagram.
The post featured a picture of what the Thanksgiving gingerbread turkey was supposed to look like, alongside a photo of her own creation, with the caption, “This was actually pretty easy to achieve. You just need a steady hand and a lot of patience. I managed to create this within hours. #gwynethmoveover”.
Goop it was
The actress used her hashtag to humorously compare her festive efforts in the kitchen to wellness/cookbook author, actress friend and fellow mum, Gwyneth Paltrow. Isla’s gingerbread turkey was not only full of sugar, but ended up resembling a odd shaped pile of biscuits smothered in runny icing – basically what most of us busy mums end up with when we attempt something special in the kitchen for the kids.
Fans of the actress were quick to congratulate her on her “brilliant” culinary skills, with the post receiving thousands of likes and comments. Perhaps they were also relieved to have the bar lowered a little, because who has time for all this fanciness, really?
It all tastes the same
No word on what her husband Sacha thought about the turkey fail but we’re sure the kids loved eating it anyway – once it’s in the mouth it all tastes the same right? It’s the effort that counts Isla! And let’s just hope someone else is cooking dinner this Christmas.
