Dad of the newest five-day-old royal, Prince William, was caught napping at an official Anzac Day ceremony and parents across the globe are sending messages of support.

The struggle is real

William was obviously still recovering from an incredibly busy few days, appearing to take a micro-sleep as he sat beside soon-to-be sister-in-law Meghan Markle and brother Harry.

The Prince is seen closing his eyes and repeatedly trying to blink them open, as the proceedings unfold. It looks like he nods off for a second, but it’s a bit hard to be completely sure.

We have to say we’re surprised that the Prince returned to his official duties so quickly, but perhaps it’s a case of third child syndrome, where the parents are deemed pros and the concessions new parents are extended have well and truly dried up.

No pro skills can mitigate the full body exhaustion a transformative life event – like the birth of a baby – and the resulting sleep deprivation can bring, however. The Prince’s cheeky kip is testament to that!

While William told Australia’s High Commissioner to the UK, Alexander Downer, that Kate and newborn were fighting fit, and that the baby was “sleeping reasonably well”, it’s clear the excitement of the last few days have taken a toll.

“Give the man a break”

Twitter users swept in to support the new dad (although many others used the opportunity to have a dig).

“Let him bloody sleep he has a newborn and two kids under five for goodness sake,” one commenter posted.

“Good to see Prince William’s just a normal new Dad. Takes it out of every new parent,” another wrote.

“Give the man a break, blimey would love to see you all up early for an engagement days after your baby was born, don’t think my husband even left the house!!!” someone else posted.

“Very much looking forward”

In related news, keen royal watchers were delighted overnight, as Kensington Palace announced that Prince William had some other important royal duties to attend to – namely being brother Prince Harry’s best man!

Harry’s due to wed Meghan Markle in a few short weeks, and the palace made the most of the captive audience awaiting the new baby Prince’s name reveal, spilling the beans on some wedding plans instead.

“Prince Harry has asked his brother The Duke of Cambridge to be his Best Man at his wedding to Ms. Meghan Markle,” a Kensington Palace rep posted on Twitter and Instagram.

“Prince Harry served as best man to The Duke of Cambridge at his wedding to Miss Catherine Middleton in 2011. The Duke of Cambridge is honoured to have been asked, and is very much looking forward to supporting his brother at St George’s Chapel, Windsor on May 19th.”

And what about that baby name? No word as yet, but we’re tipping a reveal late this afternoon/early evening and our money is still on ALBERT – as mentioned a couple of weeks ago! #PrinceBertie
