Mum sends over dessert and words of encouragement to breastfeeding stranger

We’ve come a long way in the breastfeeding battle. But breastfeeding shaming still happens every single day. So when we come across a sweet story like this, we cannot help but share. Read and see just how powerful a two-sentence note and a slice of tiramisu can be.

It may be just a small piece of dessert for one breastfeeding mum, but it’s a massive step in the right direction on the journey to end breastfeeding shamers and stop mummy judgement.

As Sarah Collins, 25, enjoyed a meal with her infant and her parents at the popular American chain restaurant, the Olive Garden, she was sent over a note and a piece of dessert by the waitress.

The note read: “From one Breastfeeding mama to Another … your [sic] doing an AWESOME Job! Your [sic] feeding 2 so here’s some dessert.”

Sarah quickly tried to identify the mum who sent the gift, but the patron had already left the restaurant before Sarah could thank her.

The sweet gesture has inspired Sarah to ‘pay it forward’ and, after posting a picture of the note to a Facebook breastfeeding group, many of the commenters agreed they would be doing the same for breastfeeding mums, even complete strangers, from now on.

The lovely note now has a new home in Sarah’s son’s baby book and acts as a beautiful reminder that encouragement can travel a long way.

We love a good ‘mums helping mums’ story, especially with all the negativity and judgement out there. Check out some of the other beautiful gestures we’ve stumbled across recently, including the kind stranger who paid an Aussie mum’s parking ticket while she was stuck in hospital.
