Fiercely awesome breastfeeding mum gives strangers something to talk about

The battle to normalise breastfeeding continues with the latest breastfeeding mum taking to Facebook to share her anger and frustration at a stranger’s looks of disgust as she breastfeeds her son in public. Her story and image are causing quite the social media stir and once you read what she has to say, it’s easy to see why.

Ashley Kaidel is one badass, uncovered breastfeeding mama and she isn’t afraid to admit it. Her photo, in which she is breastfeeding her son in a restaurant, proves it. As Ashley explains, she may look like she is staring off in the distance but, in fact, she is locking eyes with a stranger who was contemptuously watching her feed.

Ashley explains, “she is looking at me in disgust and shaking her head with judgement in an attempt to shame me and indirectly tell me without words that I am wrong and need to cover myself.”

Clearly the stranger messed with the wrong mum.

Ashley posted her photo and explanation on Facebook and so far the post has been shared more than 120,000 times with thousands of comments pouring in, mostly in support of Ashley.

“Let me make my reasoning clear on why I post pictures of my son and I publicly breastfeeding uncovered,” Ashley writes. “I don’t mean to say everyone should breastfeed without a cover. Show the world your boobs! If a mother is more comfortable covering herself because SHE feels better doing so, then I totally support that.”

However, for all the mums out there that want to breastfeed without a cover, Ashley explains, “I post this to give mamas encouragement. And to encourage others to make breastfeeding mothers feel accepted and supported; not alienated, ridiculed and judged.”

There have been countless campaigns in support of normalising breastfeeding.
