I recently had the pleasure of staying at Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa, which is located near the Blue Mountains and only a three hour drive from Sydney (or forty-five minutes by helicopter). I was thirty-five weeks pregnant at the time and we decided to go on a Babymoon and leave the kids behind with grandparents for two nights. I can’t fault this resort at all including food, the rooms, activities, the spa and of course the personalised service.
The resort comprises forty separate suites, each with private terraces and swimming pools. It was winter, but so cozy and warm with fireplaces everywhere, including two in our suite. Even our private swimming pool was heated and the perfect temperature for taking a dip. One of my favourite room features were the fifty new release movies on the entertainment system that were included in the rates. I have to admit, I spent most of the weekend watching chick flicks and making my way through the minibar snacks, which was a heavenly weekend away from the kids and relaxing in pure luxury.
To get an idea of the luxury in the suites, have a look at the video below.
I did venture out to the Timeless Spa a few times for a massage and also a pedicure. With six double treatment rooms, this is perfect for couple treatments. Each room has its own changing area and private bathroom featuring a shower and a Japanese-style soaking tub to complete the indulgent experience. Before and after each treatment, I waited by a very welcoming stone fireplace in the relaxation room with warm tea and fruit.
For the more active guests (of which I was not one, at least for this visit) there are a variety of outdoor activities taking in Wolgan Valley and the surrounding Blue Mountains region. The activities staff talk you through the options and each night as dinner you can book for the next day. Choices include hiking nature trails, exploring the countryside on horseback, touring by four-wheel drive, mountain biking through forests, or stargazing in the dead of night. My husband tried archery which he thoroughly enjoyed, but left his arm sore for a week! There are also two mountain bikes at each suite that you can use to explore the area on your own.
All food is included and some beers and wines are provided with each meal. Breakfast and dinner is served in the stunning Wolgan Dining Room. Breakfast consists of a very hearty continental buffet and hot food can be ordered from the menu. Dinner is served between 6:30pm and 10pm and is a four to five-course affair, followed by cheeses and port chosen from the cheese room. They were wonderful in catering to my pregnancy and made sure I could eat everything or offered alternatives when I preferred not to go with the menu option. Lunch is in the Country Kitchen and we rugged up and sat outside on the deck each day. Lunch consisted of anitpasto, soup, fish, salads and pastas.
While children of all ages are welcome at the resort and they do cater to children with the outdoor activites, I highly recommend Wolgan Valley as a child-free break for a few nights to enjoy the relaxing and peaceful environment. They really have thought of everything to make sure your stay is the ultimate in luxury. One of my favourite things over the weekend was having the buggy call to collect or bring us back to the suite in the freezing cold night, with lovely hot water bottles and blankets on the seats to keep you cosy warm. Now if that’s not impeccable service, I don’t know what is.
Packages start at $1420 per person twin share for two nights in a Heritage Suite including gourmet breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, non-alcoholic beverages, a select range of local wines and beer with meals and two on-site nature activities. Contact Wolgan Valley for more details and to reserve your next getaway. All I can say is two nights was really not long enough at the property and next time we visit, we’ll try and stay at least three nights to enjoy the resort facilites, food and service for just that little bit longer.
Thank you Wolgan Valley for inviting us to experience a memorable weekend stay at your property, we’ll be back again.
