Relaxing at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Kuala Lumpur

The Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Kuala Lumpur is very luxurious, centrally located, has an incredible rooftop pool and is the perfect destination for a few nights while visiting Malaysia. We stayed here in May on the way to Langkawi for a family holiday and I wanted to share this property with you.

There’s almost six hundred rooms to choose from – all with city or park views – that are spread over thirty floors. The hotel has a club lounge, though children under twelve are not allowed. We ate breakfast each morning in the Mosaic restaurant instead, which was lovely. The kids enjoyed freshly made smoothies, pastries, waffles and a pancake station. They also had the odd local spring roll or stir fried noodles.

The hotel is in a terrific location right next to the Petronas Twin Towers and Kuala Lumpur City Centre Park. This is one of the largest children’s play parks I have even seen, with lots of slides, monkey bars for miles and rows and rows of swings. We were the only family out there in the thirty-five degree heat, but luckily the hotel is just behind the park so it was back there within minutes and up to the rooftop infinity pool.

With such heat on our stay, we spent a lot of time in the outdoor infinity swimming pool and children’s swimming pool. Even the tropical rain showers did not stop us enjoying the pool, as they only lasted a few minutes.

Adjoining the hotel is the Suria KLCC Shopping Center, where I lost myself in the incredible shopping for quite a few hours one night after the kids were tucked in bed (with my husband babysitting of course). A good option with kids too as there are rides, child-friendly food and air-conditioning.

The hotel caters towards children and has a few special amenities offered to younger guests, making the Mandarin Oriental a terrific choice for families when visiting Kuala Lumpur for a few nights.

You can book flights to Malaysia and rooms at Mandarin Oriental through Goldman Holidays, with special benefits via their membership of Mandarin Oriental’s Fan Club programme including room upgrades subject to availability at check-in, daily complimentary continental breakfast for two people and a personalised welcome amenity.
