John Legend’s in the midst of a European tour and he’s revealed that he’s happy to have some familiar faces on the tour bus with him – and that “come back to my crib” has a vastly different meaning these days.
Dads gone wild
Speaking to Today Parents, John admitted that his current on-tour lifestyle is wildly different from his irreverent early days (as you can imagine!). The dad-of-one says he’s digging the focus shift, though and is all in on the Family Tour Bus game.
“My first touring experience, I was a young bachelor, I was touring with Kanye and we were doing what young bachelors do at that time. A lot has changed for all of us.”
“We’re both dads now, we’re both husbands now, and we tour quite a bit differently. I’ve got a crib on the bus now. It’s fun,” he laughed.
John says that there are definitely a few tricky bits to travelling with a toddler, but that for daughter Luna, having adventures is something she mostly takes in her stride. It’s all she knows.
“There are always going to be some challenges. We’re trying to wrangle a 16-month-old. But she’s adjusted well to traveling. She’s been traveling since she was a little kid, only a few weeks old.”
Chrissy Teigen has recently spoken about travelling with Luna too. She says flying with her daughter is currently NOT her favourite thing, but she’s trying to learn to roll with it.
“We try to avoid it. She just did a long flight from Bali and nailed it — on the way home. On the way there, I was going to have a panic attack.”
“I think we get stuck in our own heads and worried about pleasing other people. You look around and realize that everyone has their headsets on, she’s not screaming or kicking seats, etc. You’ve got to either roll with it or deal with the anxiety of it. We choose to roll with it,” Chrissy said.
One rule for mums, another for dads
Today Parents asked John about the relentless judgement wife Chrissy Teigen is dealt on social media. He responded by pointing out the disparity between expectations of mums (perfection!) and those that are levelled at dads (getting a cookie for pitching in!).
“I think the expectation from the general public is that the mom is more responsible for raising the child, and I think there’s more of a culture around mommy-shaming than there is around dad-shaming. Chrissy has to deal with it more.”
She really does and she reveals it really does take a toll.
“I feel like pregnancy is the time for them to warm you up to the shaming that’s about to come because they really go in on you,” Chrissy said recently. “You realize you’re going to get it no matter what, and it started when I was pregnant,” she said. “If I seem like I don’t care, I definitely care.”
Model and TV host Chrissy and singer John met in 2007 and married in 2013 at Lake Como, Italy. Their daughter Luna was born in April 2016 and the couple have said they’re ready to give her a baby sibling in the very near future. Watch this space!
