This stunning toy makes beautiful music using a marble run. And your child is the composer.
I remember at school that playground games often went through phases – sometimes we were all playing knuckles, sometimes everyone was fixated with elastics and at other times, marbles. Oh, the joys of childhood! I love that this toy captures some of that childhood innocence of play. It takes the simple concept of a marble run, and gives it new life.
We have to thank Babyology reader Lucy for turning our heads to this incredible toy. The Xyloba is a musical marble run. Confused? Stay with me, and you’ll be so glad you did. The Xyloba system is such that there’s an almost unlimited number of variations for the marble run. But here’s where it gets interesting. In addition to building, your child can compose. Carillon notes of various pitches can be built onto the marble run. Take a look at the video below to see how.
As your child becomes more adept with the Xyloba, they can experiment with different note lengths, and melodies can be composed by arranging the way the marbles hit the metal sound modules. It’s such a charming concept, using so many different skills. The Xyloba is recommended for children over the age of four. It comes in three sizes, the Piccolino, Mezzo and Orchestra.
Alas, it doesn’t appear that the amazing Xyloba can be purchased in Australia. However, you can grab one from UK Amazon, which ships internationally. The Orchestra version is priced at £160.90.
