Hold the bells and whistles, this is a ‘technological’ wooden puzzle, designed for tech-curious tots.
The Tinkermite Tablet is a simple puzzle that gets behind the scenes of some familiar interfaces, namely iPads and iPhones.
Slide the front off the Tinkermite Tablet to reveal a classic wooden puzzle, each piece representing a well-known component of our favourite gadgets. The design is neat – within the tablet puzzle lies a smaller smart-phone puzzle. The pieces fit together to make two separate puzzles. The Tinkermite Tablet includes a dry-erase ‘touch’ screen on the front, for drawing.

The designers came up with the idea as a way of introducing recognisable, basic concepts to toddlers. Working on the premise that if you are a child and don’t know anything about anything, is it any harder to learn the names, shapes and colours of farm animals than it is to learn about machine parts? No, probably not! On that basis, the designers came up with The Tinkermate Tablet – a low-tech toy about a high-tech topic.
The Tinkermite Tablet is not in production quite yet. The designers are seeking funding through Kickstarter. Get behind this project by pledging as little as US$1.
