For a while there, I was finding the word ‘bespoke’ a little over-used. To me, something simply handmade to order wasn’t ‘bespoke enough’ – there has to be a ‘made-to-measure’ or personalisation of the item to truly be bespoke. This gift for babies wins the bespoke title.
Made by RUX, New York, the Cameo rattle is hand-carved with the facial profile of a newborn’s parents and then engraved with the newborn’s name on the handle. The rattle is made of maple wood and finished in baby-safe tung oil. I think you’ll agree it pretty much defines ‘bespoke’. You certainly wouldn’t want this treasure flung out of the pram!

The Cameo rattle is US$180 and is available through AhaLife, which ships to Australia. Be aware that the rattles take approximately five weeks to carve, plus delivery time.
