The funkiest retro play kitchens to hit Australia

I’ve lamented before that it’s hard to come by play kitchens featuring clean lines, a contemporary aesthetic and quality materials unless purchasing from overseas or shelling out big bucks. Most are either low quality plastic plastered with licensed characters or have a country cottage style, neither being my personal cup of tea.

Now an option has hit the market here in Australia that is absolute perfection for modern, retro and contemporary lovers. The Play Toy Kitchens at Hip Kids ooze retro with rounded lines and even a working clock above the cookplate. How sensational is that! The fridge reminds me a bit of the Smeg retro fridge, with  similar handles, simple styling and a 50s shape. It would slot in nicely in any contemporary home or play space, not intruding upon or taking away from modern furnishings.

The kitchen has some fantastic elements for the price tag: it’s made of wood (yay!), is built to last with metal door hinges, the paint used is non-toxic and safe and all the knobs click when turned – the important bit for littlies. The realistic play factor is huge with plenty of shelf space, removable sink for cleaning and storage space under the sink.

To grab this rare find, go to the Hip Kids website. The kitchens come in blue or pink and prices start at $99, with shipping calculated by location. While there, don’t forget to check out the steel ride-ons which are coming soon (pictured below). My daughter would have a blast with the pedal fire truck.

  1. Oh that pink kitchen is gorgeous!!! (Can I have one? It doesn’t work right, so like I don’t have to cook?) =D
