A few months ago, Babyology reader Jill, wrote to us requesting a “stylish train table” and that while we were at it, a review of train tables would be good.
A ‘stylish’ train table was a tricky brief to fill however I think Babyology writer Anita did a pretty good job when she discovered Tomm Velthuis’s superb creation. Since then, I’ve had train tables in the back of my mind and when I spotted this nifty unit by Britain’s Great Little Trading Company, I immediately recognised the sensible thinking behind the design.
Train tables take up a lot of space. They are also something that you can’t set up and pack away easily – when my boys were little, some of our successful track configurations were kept for weeks and played with for hours each day. Which is why the Great Little Trading Company’s under-bed trundle design is genius. It even has drawers for spare tracks and carriages.
Unfortunately the Great Little Trading Company does not ship internationally however it does give the parents of little train enthusiasts some good ideas. Also for the parents (because you don’t hear it enough), is a short video clip that will have you humming.

I actually have a pattern for a train table similar, that I have been asking my husband to make. Can easily be made, looks good and best of all goes under the bed…love it. It was in a better homes and gardens magazine.
oh i miss the original thomas theme song, it had no words. now i’m stuck singing “their two their four their six their eight, shunting trucks and halling freight, red and green and brown and blue, their the really useful crew”
Funny, now that my boys have stopped watching Thomas, I actually miss hearing it on the tv – never though I’d say that!
Do you remember which month of BH+G, Erin?
