Little girls can become little mermaids with the MerFin

Do you know a little girl who dreams of being a mermaid? What if we knew how to make those dreams come true?

We saw these eye-catching mermaid fins from Oceanika at Sydney’s Kids Instyle tradeshow earlier this year and just knew you’d all want to take a closer look – especially, if like a few of us here at Babyology, you have a little Ariel wannabe or two in the house.

Designed in Australia by mermaid look-a-like Kazzie Mahina (that’s her in the middle of all those mini-mermaids up there), the MerFins are the culmination of a lifelong dream that sprang from her own idyllic childhood pretending to be a mermaid at the beach. Kazzie still lives the dream and can often be spotted swimming in the waters around Byron Bay in her own mermaid suit. Now she wants to inspire the hearts and dreams of other mermaid-besotted little girls, and hopefully foster a deeper love for the ocean and its creatures along the way.

The fins are made from recycled rubber and are very easy to remove. Kazzie tells us all it takes is a simple flick of the ankle strap to release a child’s feet from the MerFin. The smallest fin will fit a child from about six years, with other sizes to fit up to the early teens. There’s also matching mermaid swim tights and bikinis, both made from fabric designed to resemble scales to help your little mermaid look the part.

MerFins can be used in the pool or for bodysurfing at the beach. Here’s a little peek at some children swimming with their MerFins. Enthralling, isn’t it?

MerFins start from $130 or you can get the whole MerFin package, with a fin, tights and bikini in either coral pink or aquamarine from $190 direct from Oceanika MerFin.

Of course, we don’t need to remind parents that MerFins should only be used where children are competent and confident swimmers. And please, always keep an eye on your children in and around the water.

  1. These are utterly divine, our daughter (Ariel ha!) would do anything for one. Definitely ordering when she’s a little older!

  3. Just wondering, are there a Merfins large enough to fit size 8 ladies feet?

This is what a childhood of stuffing both feet in an adult flipper has prepared me for!

  7. You can buy these at http://www.carlaswimwear.com.au and cheaper than other places- also free postage if u are in Australia. My 3and 5 year old love theirs. My 5 year old swims like a fish now, it has given her amazing confidence and my 3year old just has a play in it till she gets to be a stronger swimmer. Highly recommend. I love it myself too!!!
