They’re a little bit Mary Poppins, a little bit Holly Hobbie and a whole lot of charm. They’re Kavishka – a range of nappy bags, totes, toys and other things that are so whimsically eclectic, you can’t help but fall in love. There’s something so perfect about the mismatched patterns and fabrics in bright and cheery colours that are at play here. Kavishka’s designers have thrown out the fashion rule book – you know, the one that says pink and green should never be seen, or that florals and spots simply don’t go – to create things of beauty that clash in a thousand ways but look ever so fabulous for it.

Our hot pick for Christmas are these adorable family of reindeer. They come in a large mum and dad size with antlers (that’s dad up there at the top of the page with the polka-dotted shorts, yellow spotted antlers and hippy-inspired shirt while mum sports a pink floral number with red cha-cha pompoms) or in smaller kid sizes with antlers (above) that are more on the wee side but still just as good for grabbing or chewing.
The carpet-bag style tote (see, I told you a little bit Mary Poppins) is a perfect size for a nappy bag. Very roomy inside, with enough pockets to keep things organised, it’s the mash-up of fabrics in clashing deep pinks, reds and greens that grab you. Irresistible, I think. Owl embossed suitcases or gingham-and-striped cases are perfect for little ones having their first overnight trip to grandmas, or for storing treasures. And speaking of owls, little girls will certainly want one of these little owl-shaped bags (below right) for themselves. Too cute.

Kavishka also makes all sorts of quirky cushions in patterns and colours that clash – great for decorating girls’ bedrooms, or even your own living space if you like the vintage chic look but with a completely quirky modern edge.
If you see something you like, grab it quick because Kavishka products are notoriously hard to come by and tend to sell out quick. The next Australian deliveries of these made-in-India marvels won’t be until at least March or April next year. I’ve managed to nab a set of those delightfully striped cases for my daughter to keep her treasures in (that’s the larger case pictured above) by staking out my local stockist, but in a bad mother moment, I adore them so completely that I really am considering keeping them for myself!

Find your favourite Kavishka product at the Tree Top Toy Shop (you’ll need to order via phone because the products are selling too quickly to make it to their website). Bags are priced from $39.95, cushions from $44.95 and those delightful reindeer from $24.95.
