Regular readers may know that I have a couple of personally held philosophies on toys. Number one, no more plastic and number two, a place for everything equals less mess. Hopefully I don’t sound too sanctimonious but I do try and keep to these so I’m always on the look out for something that fits. Step up, these great crayon holders.
Crafted by Oregon-based Jim Penner, choose from hippos or elephants, trucks or fire engines. Made from pine or maple with a non-toxic laquered finish, they come complete with crayons. You can also personalise a truck with a child’s name to make it that extra special.
These make great gifts or party favours and with prices starting at US$7.50 plus shipping, they won’t break the bank.
Take a look at all of Jim’s other wooden products too. With forty years of experience making toys, I think he might know a bit about what kids like! All available online from Etsy.

These are so cute….I headed straight to etsy to get some for my little one, but when I got to checkout I was informed that the Jim Penner collections can’t be shipped to Australia. I thought that might be helpful to post to save anyone else from going there and spending time choosing which ones to order…
I was taking a look at purchasing some of these too and Jim Penner will ship to Australia. It says this in all of his ads: ‘Note: Will ship out of the United States. Please contact me about shipping and handling costs.’
So, good news for anyone wanting to buy!
Thanks for that Jaime! I really want some…what website can you order from where it says that?
Hi Kristil,
You can order them here at his Etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/jimpenner?ref=seller_info
If you click on one of the crayon products, under the description it says he’ll ship outside of the US. Hope this helps! :)
It’s a good idea if you already have the crayons.
Is not as cute, but I got a plastic mini-suitcase with 24 beeswax crayons (Early Starters) that serve the same purpose, plus you can close it avoiding toddlers going in the walls when not supervised.
My DD hands me down the suitcase when he wants to paint, I open it and he takes one or two (or all sometimes), but he loves to put them back into their places as well.
Thanks for your interest in my toys. Of course, I will ship to Australia – let me know which toy you want and I will advise you on the shipping costs and change the Etsy site to reflect that cost so you can place an order. Have a Great Day!
