A friend and I got a little nostalgic about Fashion Plates a few weeks ago and she went so far as to acquire a vintage set on eBay for an unmentionable sum. If you were a school-aged girl in the seventies, no doubt you remember the drawing and colouring quasi-fashion design fun that was Fashion Plates. Fast forward thirty years and meet the Roos Dress Your Doll.
Fashion design for kids is a whole lot more sophisticated with the Roos Dress Your Doll. The concept is simple and the possibilities are endless. Start with the Haute Couture set which contains a Dress Your Doll mannequin, a set of fabrics and a pattern booklet. Once you have the basics down you can create your own designs or make up high-fashion pieces from pre-made Dress Your Doll pattern and fabric sets. Patterns are helpfully divided into ‘rookie’, ‘novice’ and ‘advanced’ categories so you can work up from creating a basic shift dress and shawl to a three piece pant suit.

The nine-year-old in me seriously wants one of these – I’m quite sure I would have been all over the stunning fifties-style Peggy collection (above) but also rather taken with the Jackie collection (below), oozing classic style.

Find the Haute Couture set and other Roos Dress Your Doll accessories at Where Did You Get That?. The Haute Couture set is $84.95, outfits are $14.94 and fabric sets are $24.95.
