Kids, be prepared to be turfed out of your own cubby. You’ve never seen kids cubby houses like this before.
Designed by Cat+Lil Cubby Houses, the Beach House is pure cubby luxury. Although inspired by the Aussie tradition of the beach getaway, this is hardly a shack.
The smart grey and white weatherboard Beach House includes sash windows, a timber deck, solid timber flooring and, importantly, is roomy – no more stooping down to get inside the cubby. In fact, the Beach House was designed to be an extension of your home’s living space – a cubby for the kids when they are little, a rumpus room for teens…. or an escape for parents?!
The Beach House is $10,995 which includes installation.
Watch this space as there are more designs coming soon to Cat+Lil. In the meantime, browse our previous posts on cubby houses.

omg is that price a joke i’d want a marble kitchen in there for that price
Gorgeous! but OMG @ the price. Would love to know how many of these they would sell in a year. Most people couldn’t afford it.
I NEED ONE! Maybe you could give one away for Prizeapalooza?!?! ;)
if you consider it as an add on… rumpus etc. its not that pricey
still may take a while to convince the hubby though
Hmm home office maybe?
Does that price include electricity?
and does it get hot in summer and cold in winter?
Wow! I LOVE this. Its decadent beyond words. I wonder if I bought one whether my daughter will move out of home before she turns five?
Looks like an over sized dolls house. Looks pretty cool but.
If I were to purchase that for my 2.5yo son, would he move out say by 3? Jokes aside, too beautiful, unfortunately I have no budget for it.
OMG I nearly died at the price too. My hubby could build that for far less.
Expensive yes, but gorgeous! I agree with Sarah Jayne – it’s considered a liveable space, an extension of your home using quality materials and with installation included it makes for a very cute add-on option!
OMG its gorgeous. I know the designer at Cat+Lil and seen this in action. IT IS AMAZING!!! Such good quality workmanship and a great space to put all the kiddie stuff which just seems to keep coming!
WOW it is very classy! Finally something that is not a cheap and nasty eyesore in the backyard. I have learnt the hard way that you get what you pay for. By looks of it you are paying for quality and something that will last for years to come.
An extension of your living space but with no electricity hooked up .. yikes .. the price would keep going up – but it is beautiful!
hahaha I think she’s beautiful but OMG – does it come with central heating and an alfresco?
My husbadn could knock that up for less if I begged him hahaha
It’s cute, isn’t it?
Watching endless home reno’s and property hunt shows (you know the culprits, Location Location, Relocation, Grand Designs etc etc), one sees a lot of this sort of extension for the back yard. And that is what it is, although this does seem on a fairly small scale.
A lot of times it is used as an office or other living space for the family, and planted in the back of the garden. Especially in England I have seen these little outdoors cabanas used.
So implementing the same sort of structure and using it as a cubby is actually not that innovative (like the french doors tho) or new.
The price tag seems reasonable for what you get, and if you aren’t handy enough (or your hubby/significant other/brother/uncle/dad/doting friend..) to construct one yourself and make it economy then this just might be your best option.. .
There are plenty of companies out there who will build a cubby from a kit for you but the window fittings, doors, and long term potential of such a space makes it a LOT more viable. It really IS another room of the house…
I can just imagine escaping into a room like that, my girlie version of the mens shed at the back of the garden. It might even seem like I’m busy with the washing, if it’s positioned right!
One final advantage, I don’t think anyone ever needed planning permission to build a cubby!
A friend told me about this and I just checked out the website and I LOVE IT! OMG I want one!
Yolande – I am sure you could run electricity to the cubby – no reason why not….(But I am sure you would need to check with your council as every council is different – also maybe as it is essentially for kids electricity is not really safe for unattended kids playing in it)
Sarah – I saw on the website it is fully insulated and therefore you wouldn’t need central heating.
Kotori – my friend (who referred me to the website) said she contacted them and as the cubbies are hand made they can make to your specs – but obviously if you go bigger you will pay more!
Now to convince hubby!
I love it, but agree that the price is ridiculous. Might steal the idea and get my husband to make one.
Depending on where you live you would need to have a licensed electrician if you wanted to have it connected, and it would have to be inspected.
Stunning stunning stunning!
Ok so saw a great tie in to this post over at Apartment therapy (which I love) http://marketplace.apartmenttherapy.com/features/backyard-offices-8-modern-prefab-sheds full of different office back yard concepts!
