Playtower Thing 3 by Momoll

Toys

Is your child a budding architect or designer in the making?  Swiss designer toy company Momoll has come up with what I can only describe as the coolest, most design savvy doll house I have ever seen – the Playtower Thing 3.  However, there is nothing overtly feminine or old-fashioned about this modular set.  In fact, I think that most parents will be fighting their little ones to play with it!

Constructed of either plywood or plexiglass, the combinations of floors, stairs, ramps and sliding walls are only limited by your child’s imagination.  Flat packed for easy assembly and disassembly, these modular sets are simple, functional and beautifully designed.

The basic package of one floor comes in either plywood (‘boy’ model) or plexiglass (‘architect’ model) for $290AUD with additional floors costing $149. You can even purchase cool furniture to put inside!  Available from their online shop, they will also arrange shipping to Australia.

I warn you now. You’ll want them all. Scrumptious handmade toys from German designer Andreas Linzner, are completely irresistible in both unique vintage fabrics and plains. There are elephants, giraffes, monkeys, pigs and donkeys, just to name a few.

You can even send in your own favourite terry towel for transformation into a critter. If you’re like me though, and haven’t a fondness for a particular towel, the thrill of the hunt for just the right fabric should set the pulse racing. If there’s something second to my love of beautiful baby products, it has to be vintage fabric.

A tailor by trade, Linzner developed a passion for terry cloth of the 60s and 70s and then matching each design to a particular animal. The colour and pattern of the cloth dictates the form it will finally take.

You'll want a whole zoo of these delectable toys. Their charm is undeniable. Retro, striped, flowered, zig-zagged and spotted - crafted under the eyes of a true artisan, these soft yet hardy beauties will play host to many childhood memories.

Available through the Andreas Linzner website, with prices starting at €39.90 and luckily they ship to Australia.

From the makers of the Svan highchair, (featured on Babyology in June), this Scandinavian Birch wood scooter has a dynamic shape that encourages imaginative play. Offering children a zippy ride-on toy that develops fitness, coordination and balance, it also pleases adult eyes with its sculptural design.

This is one you won’t need to tidy away when visitors come around - if it’s not being ridden, pushed, pulled and raced, it fits right in as a beautiful example of contemporary furniture!

Use indoors as a ride-on. Stand on the rear plate and it’s a kick scooter.

The Svan scooter is designed for children 18 months and up. Available in Australia at Bebe for $199.95
