Wheely classic fun

Toys

Back to basics with a modern twist, these cute little pull-along toys by Cookie Dough are wheely good fun and available at the wonderful Etsy.

Each toy is hand-made, papered, painted and sealed with non-toxic glaze. Side edges and wheels are painted in co-ordinating colours, and the lovely curved design makes these safe for the littlest ones. And how cute would they look up on the bookshelf when resting!

Cookie Dough assure us these gems use only lead-free and non-toxic materials. With multiple layers of glaze, they'll withstand all the adventures your little one can dish out.

Measuring 6 inches wide and 4.75 inches tall, I have to confess my favourite to be the glorious chocolate brown with deep red full bloom duck, although the pink paisley punch print would really cheer up my desk. My children would go for the whole set - featuring elephants, giraffes and rhinos too.

You can check them all out at Cookie Dough through Etsy. The toys sell for US$20.00 each and they are happy to ship internationally for $10.30 or $3.00 if shipped with another item.

Porsche - the ultimate first wheels

Toys

There is no denying that Porsche design is cool. 'Way cool' as my son would say. Christmas is fast approaching and Porsche is set to deliver the creme-de-la-creme of gifts! Have a look at this range of newly released Porsche toys.

A sleek-designed aluminum sledge screams fast and looks mean. With a built-in folding mechanism, there'll be no time wasted setting this little gem up at the snow. A great source of snow fun for years, suitable for children from age three.

If your child (or husband) is a would-be racing car driver, then the Boxster or 911 pedal car is sure to be a hit! Attention to detail is amazing and who doesn't want to be the envy of all the other kids on the block? All children's vehicles from Porsche are made from quality materials to withstand the test of vigorous kids' play, and ensure their safety.

A bevvy of toys is available - from traditional race tracks, toy police cars, push-along bikes, the works! Who said you can't make your child's first vehicle a Porsche? Available from Porsche centres.

A sweet departure from the usual plastic stacking rings, this beautiful hand knitted alpaca and cotton Stacking Cone from enfant terrible will amuse your baby or toddler whilst developing essential skills. Playing softly with these squishable, chewable rings, baby can have fun manipulating the rings into different shapes. And there will be no abrupt noises as the rings drop to the floor!

With five rings of green, yellow, orange, red and blue, your child can observe relations of size and colour, take pleasure in removing and replacing the rings and develop a growing awareness of when to correct an arrangement. I can also see the rings becoming beautiful, tender bracelets for tiny arms and wrists!

'I golfini della nonna' means 'the little sweater from grandma'. The Italian mother and daughter designers work in partnership with Bolivian women to improve living conditions and health and educational outcomes in their communities. Having spent a year in Bolivia myself, this is a cause with much personal significance.

Be sure to view the other beautiful items in the 'i golfini della nonna' range. Alphabet blocks, knitted tool belt and even a world globe would be charming additions to your child's room.

Enfant terrible specialises in gentle products that last the distance and work against the idea of excessive consumption. Buy little and buy well, all the while supporting ethical manufacturing. The stacking cone is C$68 plus shipping.

Walk On and Ride On from Brio

Toys

Brio keeps churning out the classics and it's two latest releases are no different!

My baby boy is such a fan of walkers right now, but safety is an issue as he's not yet able to steady himself and stop the walker from rolling away. Brio's new Walk On walker has an adjustable brake that can prevent those accidents when baby is still learning to be upright. Painted in delightfully fresh green and white, it also has a sliding panel so baby can hide things inside. It's suitable for babies from 9 months.

Brio has also updated its Ride On. Now in contemporary yellow and white, the Ride On encourages physical development, balance and strength attainment. Made from wood and finished off with rubber-lined wheels for safety and noise minimisation, Brio has also covered the seat in fabric so your little one can ride in absolute comfort.

Both the Walk On and Ride On are perfect first birthday gifts - babies have been using toys like these for decades. Classic design is never superceded!

Available from bébé, the Walk On is $99.95 and the Ride On is $179.95. Bébé offer free shipping on all orders over $100.

We first discovered these Dado Cubes Building Blocks in August last year.  These building blocks have taken the traditional building block to a new level with interconnecting 3D cubes that stimulate spatial awareness.

The good news is they are now available in Australia through bebe starting at $44.95.
