No matter how much fun the kids are having these summer holidays, there’s no avoiding the return to school. Here’s our pick of the best drink bottles for little ones.

One way to make sure your child’s bottle won’t be accidentally taken home by another is to get a personalised drink bottle from Stuck on You. There are forty funky images to choose from so even the coolest (fussiest) of children should be able to find something suitable. Bottles are 500ml, cost $24.95, have pop top lids, are BPA free, stainless steel and shipping is free until Monday 14 Jan 2013.

Another fave of ours is the Thermos Funtainer Straw Bottle, available from Haggus and Stookies for $21.95. This 355ml thermos design has double wall vacuum insulation to keep drinks cold for up to twelve hours. It features funky illustrations, push button lid, pop up straw and is tough as old boots. It has a non-slip base, is sweat proof and, if you can get them to close the lid, it is also drip proof.

If you’re into super cute simplicity, then check out the Tinyme Stainless Steel Drink Bottles. Made to match their huge range of personalised products are a style statement all on their own. They are 400ml, have a pop top, are BPA free and come in three cute colours.

These Join The Pipe drink bottles look a bit odd at first, so they probably won’t get mixed up with other kid’s bottles. Buying one of these is your ticket into a community of tap water drinkers who aim to redistribute clean water to areas of the world that are less fortunate. They are BPA free, also available in pink, and if you have a few, just for fun, they can be screwed together to make a water pipe. You can buy Join the Pipe bottles at selected surf stores from $19 or online for €15,00 with a €6 shipping cost. While you’re there you can also buy a fresh water pump in Asia for €1000. Just in case you had some spare cash in your pocket post-Christmas.

If it’s funky retro inspired design you crave (who doesn’t?) then check out the Blafre Drink Bottles from Lark. These stainless steel cuties are 350ml and perfect for little hands. Designed in Norway, they will set you back $24.95 with a $9.95 shipping charge. There is a pop top lid and a pull up spout to ensure no drips and the neck is nice and wide to aid with easy cleaning.

The best way to ensure that your little one’s drink bottle will come home is to get them something they love so much that they wouldn’t dare leave it behind. And one of these Vapur Quenchers may just do the trick. These collapsible drink bottles hold 250ml, are BPA free, foldable, reusable, can be easily attached to a school bag and are dishwasher safe. For $23.95 you can choose from the four above characters that each come plain faced with a packet of stickers so the kidlets can pick and choose what expression their bottle has. These little monsters can also go in the freezer to double as a cold pack for lunchboxes and shipping is only $3.50.

For all the little Lego heads out there Peter’s of Kensington have super funky Lego Drink Bottles for $16. These are made from durable plastic and the base unscrews for easy cleaning. If you decide on this one you may have to grab two, as you don’t want any jealous big kids (dads) in the house. They hold 400ml, are dishwasher safe and shipping is only $7.

My ‘baby’ starts school this year. For the fourth (and last time), I will be going through the highly necessary process of labelling everything that moves. And doesn’t move. After lots of ‘first days’ I’ve also come to appreciate the importance of fabulous stationery – what’s in your pencil case matters! Here’s a selection of personalised sticky labels and outstanding stationery that will have your child setting off for school in style.

Stuck On You are wowing kids with an amazing range of label designs. My daughter has been unwavering in her desire for pink cupcake labels on everything however I’m completely taken with the beach-cool Endless Summer label packs that include surfboard-shaped labels personalised with hibiscus flowers or skull and crossbones – gnarly! There’s also funky Splat, Splash and Goo labels, the signature Penny Scallan collection and loads of traditional favourites. For a complete school set-up, Stuck On You also have personalised stationery sets and book bag kits. Value Packs of labels start at just $24.95 a pack.

Start the year with a customised splash of colour from Bright Star Kids. The labels at Bright Star Kids have clear, large names and simple icons so even the littlest of kids will quickly be able to recognise their gear. There’s a large range of icons to appeal to kids of all ages from a cute penguin, fairy wand or soccer ball for the littlies to tween-friendly guitars, phones and Kombi vans. Save time and money by picking a Value Kit (shown above). Name label kits range from $23.95 to $59.95 and include various label sizes to suit school aged kids, pre-schoolers and babies.

Put away the Sharpie! Stamptastic labels all those trick items in neat style. Stamptastic (shown above) make personalised stamps with up to twenty characters that are usable on just about everything – fabric, metal, wood and plastic. Each order includes an ink pad so that you can get stamping straight away. Stamptastic stamps are easy to use so kids can do their own labelling however I suspect that because there is a degree of satisfaction in stamping stuff, parents might keep this job for themselves (or is that just me…?!). One Stamptastic stamp costs £16.99, with a discount for additional stamps in the same order and delivery is only £3.50 to Australia.

As much as I’d love to start the school year with a set of 500 Colored Pencils (we reviewed them three years ago and I’m still dreaming about those beautifully named pencils, shown at top), there’s probably not a pencil case large enough to carry them. Keep them for projects at home and instead look to French Bull for a bright pop of colour. The French Bull stationery range includes pocket-sized pad books, mini notebooks sized for kids and classic billfold sets of notecards and envelopes, all available in signature French Bull patterns.

There’s a handful of online stationery stores where I’d like to say “I’ll take one of everything!”. Note Maker is one such store. As well as a gorgeous range of notebooks, diaries and fine paper goods, Note Maker stock lots of items that kids will covet. My picks are the Koh-I-Noor Ergonomic Pencils (above) and the O-Check Kids Drawing Sets.

Spencil has a huge range of gorgeous stationery including gel pens, crayons and cute erasers though it’s the Spencil slip-on book covers that this ‘I-can’t-stand-fighting-with- adhesive-book-covering-mum’ is loving. And I mean really loving – slip the fancy cover over a standard exercise book and you’re done. I’m very partial to the sweet Twigseeds designs created by illustrator Kate Knapp as well as the pastel Clarence & Pip range. The covers are suitable for exercise and scrap books and are available in three sizes, with prices starting at $2.25. Spencil’s full range of fashion stationery products, including the book covers, is available from newsagents or online at Spencil.

Lastly, for labels that are fashion-forward, check out US-based Oliver’s Labels. There’s a range of designer prints to choose from that will please kids of all ages, including Robert Cavalli animal print, Pucci swirls, signature Missoni zigzags and Burberry check. Name labels, shoe labels, iron-on clothing labels, bag tags and more are all available – a pack of forty name labels is US$19.99. Oliver’s Labels ships to Australia.

I think kids aged two and three years are my favourite to buy gifts for. It’s an age where they really appreciate a great present (as opposed to just the box it came in!) and we’ve picked out some super-fun pieces that are sure to delight on the big day.

Kapow! Cocoon Couture bean bags are available in huge range of colours and designs, featuring gorgeous appliqué creatures in vintage-inspired fabrics.
Give a toddler a bucket and a spade, and you’ve made their day. Give them an entire sandpit and they’re sure to think all their Christmases have come at once. The Plum Square Wooden Sand Pit from Big W is just the thing to fuel hours and hours of creative outdoor play.

When you’re two years old, your future’s so bright, you definitely have to wear shades! Pick up some Babiators from Skip to my Lou.

What’s the most important thing on Christmas Eve? An early and good night’s sleep, I say! Make sure your pre-schoolers sleep is a restful one with an Ollie Mini contoured memory foam pillow from Ollie Owl.

A toy that is also a decor and heirloom piece makes for a special gift and it’s hard to go past the design perfection that is Playsam. Playsam vehicles are sleek, minimalist and timeless. Playsam toys are priced between $74.80 and $99 and are available from Lilly & Lolly.

Dance up a storm this festive season with the unique and very groovy Boogie Monster Dance Kit from Scallyoop. The kit includes a Boogie Monster book, a pair of funky Boogie Monster Leggings and a full length Boogie Monster Boogie Music CD by Babyology favourite, Recess Monkey, all beautifully packaged in a study gift box. So why put on dancing shoes when you can go the whole nine yards with Boogie Monster Leggings instead?! Each kit is $66.

When one of my boys was two, we’d joke that he would grow up to be locksmith – he was obsessed with locks, latches and keys. The Melissa and Doug Latches Board from Classic Baby would have kept him entertained for hours. As well as exercising those fine motor skills, the Latches Board includes doors with different numbers, colours, shapes and animals creating multiple activities. It’s $47.85 from Classic Baby.

Have you got kids with energy to burn? Let them loose in the backyard with Bop Along Buddies for some bouncing fun. It’s hard not to resist adopting Rufus the Reindeer for Christmas but there’s also Brutus the Bull, Darcy the Dragon and more. Bop Along Buddies are made from kid safe PVC and are $39.95 each (and I think the ideal thing to keep the kids busy while parents recover from Christmas lunch!).

For the ultimate in personalised gifts (and just right for three-year-olds who are learning their alphabet) comes personalised wooden name puzzles from Stuck on You. So whether you have a Bartholomew or an Ed, they’ll soon be spelling their name with a beautifully crafted puzzle. Puzzles are $29.95 each or $49.95 with a wooden storage box.

I thank balance bikes for making the task of teaching my kids to ride an absolute breeze. It’s so much easier to get the balance and co-ordination sorted before worrying about pedals. The Mocka Balance Bike will get your child off to an ideal (and flying) start. Mocka Balance Bikes are made from wood and offer an easy, safe and fun way for children to build their confidence. Available in a range of colours, the bikes are $79.95 each.

After all that outdoor riding fun, take some down time playing or drawing at the beautifully designed Mocka table, complete with four stools. The contemporary table and stool set looks great in any home and the practical design allows the stools to be stacked away for easy storage. The table set is also great for mini-mealtimes. Available in natural timber or with coloured stools, each set is $89.95.

Without a doubt, the big ticket item for starting school or kinder is the backpack. Nothing says “big kid” like their own bag, and if you are fortunate enough to get a say in the matter (and the school doesn’t force you into a uniform-matching monstrosity), you are spoiled for choice. With so many great backpacks on the market, here are a few noteworthy mentions!

Fluf

The Fluf Organic Cotton backpack (pictured above in two of three available designs) is completely machine washable, so there’s no more worrying about what that might have been growing in the bottom of last year’s bag. They’re certified organic and are a bit smaller than the average bag, which is great for preschoolers. We think they’re pretty cute to boot. Get yours from Kindred Gifts for $39.95.

Little Beetle

Looking for something a bit bigger and brighter? The Little Beetle backpack might be just the thing for your little beetle. It’s roomy, with a padded back and straps plus a large compartment that’s easy for little hands to navigate. And – always a winner – it comes with its own drink bottle. Find these and more designs at Haggus and Stookles for a cool $39.95.

Beatrix NY

Beatrix New York backpacks are finally available in Australia! No more gazing wistfully at shots of celebrities and their kids toting these stylish little wonders, you can now just pick one up for yourself (I mean, your child!). Sukimama is stocking four designs at $45.95 each. Made from sturdy, laminated canvas, they are big enough for the essentials (with a smaller zippered compartment inside) but not too big to overwhelm the shoulders of smaller children.

Stuck on You

Every child I’ve ever met loves a bag with their name on it. Personalise your own with these hard-wearing and fully lined backpacks from Stuck on You. Available in navy, pink or red, in a huge range of designs, they are currently on sale for $44.95 at Stuck on You.

Penny Scallan

These backpacks from Penny Scallan seem to be everywhere at the moment, and for good reason. Totally wipeable, they come in six fun (but not cutesy) designs and are big enough to carry everything needed for a full day out. These ones are great for slightly bigger kids and might be a bit too large for a preschooler. I’m just waiting for my daughter to get old enough to buy the Apple design, which is definitely my favourite. Have a look at Penny Scallan for these and the boys’ designs, which all go for $49.95.

Bosco Bear

Of course, it’s not all backpacks at school and preschool these days. If you find yourself needing a library bag (and you will) or a bag for swimming gear, we have you covered with bags you can personalise from Bosco Bear. The library bags are $29.95, swim bags are $44.95 and both can be jazzed up with names and designs of your choosing. They’re Australian designed and made and the swim bags are brand new on the market this month.

Bobble Art

If the backpack wearer in your life is a bit hard on their bags (you all know the child I’m talking about) – something made from durable PVC might be a better option for you. Lime Tree Kids stocks the adorable Bobble Art large PVC backpacks in a range of designs which are great for both girls and boys, and you can pick one up for $39.95.

Mad Pax

Although they don’t have any Australian stockists at the moment, we couldn’t resist mentioning these ultra cool Spiketus Rex backpacks from Mad Pax. Anklebiters can really stand out from the crowd with these, which come in two backpack sizes and two smaller, tote bag sizes (the Nibbler, and the Mighty Bite!). The Full Pack is US$60 and the Half Pack (for preschoolers) is US$46. There’s no direct option for mailing to Australia in their online shop, but if you email them they are happy to ship internationally and will send you a quote.

The value of a good drink bottle can never be underestimated – as many parents know, it can feel like it takes three hundred bottle purchases before you find the right one. It shouldn’t leak and needs to be hardy for all the knocks and scrapes it will receive in its lifetime. It also needs to be age appropriate as well as stylish – we just wouldn’t be Babyologists if that weren’t a factor! We’ve lined up a fab selection of drink bottles for you, so look no further in your back to school search.

First up is the gorgeous KOR Delta bottle (above) – stunning and BPA-free, there are no nasties hiding in the plastic. The Delta comes in two handy sizes; 500ml for $22.95 and 750ml for $29.95. We’d recommend the smaller size for primary school-aged children and the bigger one for high schoolers and adults. Buy both in the colour of your choice from Birthday Room.

Sweet and fresh-looking, the drink bottle range from Stuck On You ticks all the right boxes – made from food-grade stainless steel, BPA-free and personalised in impossibly cute ways with pictures to choose and a name to add. They’re just $24.95 from Stuck On You.

SIGG have always released fab designs and I fondly remember my oldest son’s first SIGG bottle with giraffes on a yellow base. With everything from cute to more sophisticated designs, Kitchenware Direct stock a large range of 300ml and 400ml kids’ SIGG bottles, and a few of the 600ml designs. They start at $32.60 and will really go the distance. Replacement parts are readily available too.

The trusty Contigo Swish – a longtime favourite of the Babyology team for its no leak, easy to use patented Autoseal lid. When we say there are no leaks and no spills, it’s absolute gospel! Available in two kid-friendly sizes (as well as adult sizes too) – the 250ml is $11.95 and the 500ml is $14.95 at Bonito Baby.

These smart, funky bottles have their very own filter system within. The Bobble’s carbon filter removes chlorine and organic contaminants found in tap water and only needs to be replaced once every two months. The 550ml Bobble is $12.95 and the replacement filters are $9.95 each at Kitchenware Direct. There is also a one litre version available for $16.95.

These 500ml stainless steel cuties by Alex & Charli will make any little lunchbox stand out! They’re $17.50 from Lime Tree Kids and come beautifully packaged in a white box for gift giving. There are other styles for younger children and toddlers so make sure you browse the range.

The cheerful Sistema 600ml drink bottle is BPA-free and will wash and wear its way through the school year with ease. It has Sistema’s twist ‘n’ sip lid and can be popped in the freezer for icy cold drinks on those swelteringly hot summer school days in February. They’re $13.50 each from Name Your Dummy, which also stocks other Sistema drink bottles.

How many times have you taken the first sip out of your child’s juice box, to avoid them squeezing the drink all over themselves? The CuppyCup will fix that problem when your child’s at school. A juice box fits neatly inside the CuppyCup, with the child holding the easy-grip handles, preventing any overzealous squeezing! And once the drink is finished, the CuppyCup folds down flat.

The start of the school year means writing your child’s name multiple times, on every item of school paraphernalia. One item you won’t need to scribble on is the Sistema Lunch Box. Name Your Dummy will personalise the lunch box for you. This lunch box has multiple compartments, a drink bottle, and is freezer and dishwasher safe. It’s $15.50 from Name Your Dummy, and comes in four colours.

Personalised lunch boxes are right up there in the uber-cool stakes at school. Stuck On You takes putting your stamp on your schoolwear to a new level – not only can your child’s name be printed on the lunchbox, but there’s a host of adorable picture accents. Birds, a beach bus, butterflies or cupcakes – take your pick of the gorgeous designs and colours to jazz up lunchtime! These lunchboxes are of course highly practical to boot, with insulated lining and a handy pocket on the outside. They’re $29.95, from Stuck On You.

And finally, if it’s stickers that are all the rage with your young pupils, the Goodbyn Bynto Lunchbox is just itching for some creative flair. It comes with two sheets of sublime stickers to add that personal touch. Not that this rather stylish food storage option needs to look any prettier! With three separate compartments, there’s no more worries about snacks getting squished by lunch. It also comes with a drink bottle, which fits snugly into the centre compartment. Available in several striking colours, the Goodbyn Bynto Lunchbox is available from Sukimama for $28.95.

So there’s really no excuse for any more tasty lunchtime treats languishing at the bottom of the schoolbag with such sumptuous storage ideas for portable lunches.

When I started school there were two ways to label your stuff – the ‘fancy’ way which involved embroidered name tape that had to be stitched on (and had my mother cursing as she labelled uniforms the night before school started) or the normal way – take to it with a permanent marker. My how things have changed!

There’s a huge range of personalised labels available and we’ve rounded up a selection that will let you label everything in style, from individual pencils and shoes to clothing and lunch boxes.

Start the year with a customised splash of colour from Bright Star Kids. The labels at Bright Star Kids have clear, large names and simple icons for easy-to-read labelling. There’s a really good range of icons that will appeal to kids of all ages including an iPhone, a drum kit, a Kombi and a tropical Hibiscus flower icon for older children and teens. Save time and money by fulfilling all your labelling needs with a Value Kit (shown above). Kits range from $23.95 to $49.95 and have enough labels to keep you going for well over an average school year!

Personalising is the answer to any woes about lost property at daycare or school. Last year my son lost many objects and items of clothing but most of them made their way back to him thanks to my scrupulous labelling. Here’s Babyology’s walkthrough of the labelling options available to you. You may also want to check out our backpack and bottles features for those thinking about what they’ll need for the coming year.

Mooo

Mooo is the king of personalisation, with a huge array of goods just waiting for your child’s name to be stamped on them. Labels are Mooo’s specialty with a gazillion designs and colours to choose from. They even make shoe dots so there will be no mistaking whose sandals are sitting by the sandpit! Label packs start at $19.95 and Assorted Value Packs from $39.95 at Mooo.

Stuck On You

Stick ‘n Go Clip ID

You don’t want to ruin that pretty pencil case or brand new backpack with permanent marker now do you? Unfortunately that’s what many of us turn to when we realise the sticky labels we’ve bought are great for most things, but not for all. This is when you’ll need Stick ‘n Go Clip ID tags – it attaches simply with its carabiner clip onto anything with a handle, strap or loop to slip it through. Write the appropriate details on the tag, clip and you’re away, in the knowledge that your gear has the best chance of finding its way back to you if lost. Just $9.75 for a twin pack in green, pink, blue or grey, from Haggus and Stookles. <img style=' display: block; margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto;' class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-35502" title="clip1" src="http://babyology.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/clip1.jpg" alt="clip1 Off to daycare or school?
Oliver’s Labels, based in the US, have designer prints that will be stylish from preschool through to high school. Of course, packages are available from US$26.99 – guaranteed to keep you in labels for years! Oliver’s Labels ships to Australia.
