We all have our shopping weaknesses. My mum can’t go past a shoe shop without stopping and I have a friend who loves op shops. For me, it’s all about stationery (Kikki K, I bless the ground you set up shop on) and bed linen. I particularly love to window shop bed linen, gazing at what is largely unattainable in my house (because of kids bouncing on the bed) – carefully coordinated sheets and quilts, turned down at the corner to show contrasting patterns, mounds of plump pillows and piles of cushions in various shapes and colours to provide decorating ‘accents’.

When it came to choosing bed linen for my children the linen lover in me took over and I bought fabulous doona covers with coordinating sheets and pillow slips. I quickly discovered that small children and sheets, no matter how lovely, don’t mix – I had to untangle my son from his sheets in the middle of the night one too many times and I was forced to do away with the top sheet and use only the doona. This way, it’s far easier for kids to manage and far easier to make the bed in the morning but it just doesn’t look as nice.

Emily Stinchcomb is the brains behind PeeKoo bedding. Stinchcomb liked the ease of sleeping with only a doona but disliked the fact that changing and washing doona covers is always a bit of a production (compared to simply changing a top sheet) and so PeeKoo was created.

PeeKoo is an ‘integrated bedding system’ designed for kid comfort and parent ease. A unique, quick-zip system combines a doona cover and a top sheet – no more sleeping tangles and when it is time to wash the linen, a quick zip and you’re away. But the best thing about PeeKoo is that it looks so good. There is a superb selection of fabrics and colours available and whatever your choice, you are guaranteed to get that neat, turned down edge of coordinated sheet on show.

I love the simplicity of the Nantucket Stripes for boys but for a preschooler, the vintage fire hat design is sweet. The choices for girls are fabulous with lots of greens, blues and chocolate balancing out the pink. The polka dot set with contrasting striped sheets is simply lovely but my favourite is the Asian-inspired Boulder pattern featuring dahlias, cherry blossom and birds.

Prices range from US$110 to $145. Coordinating fitted sheets, pillow cases and pillow shams are also available. PeeKoo ships internationally by arrangement.
