Whether you call them gumboots, rainboots or Wellingtons they all refer to the same thing. In our home the often mud-covered boots are referred to as wellies and they’re a staple in each child’s winter shoe collection. Without them, I doubt the kids would step outside all winter!

Melding a child’s idea of play with a task to entertain an adult can be difficult. There is only so much Lego construction of Star Wars vehicles I can stand before my mind begins to wander to the myriad other tasks which need doing.

There’s nothing my son would rather do than swing in the sunshine on any given day and as chief swing pusher, I love to see him delight in such a simple pleasure.
Babyology has looked at all sorts of spaces created for children – from public parks and private kindergartens to amazing play centres, incredible cubby houses and beautiful bedrooms. Some are a riot of colour, others are deliberately understated to create kid-friendly havens but all offer something unique.
Modern play structures are things to behold where I live. Only 8kms from Sydney’s CBD, there isn’t a whole lot of running room for our kids. Lucky for us, park culture thrives and our local council recognises the importance of play areas for children.
