I’m not sure what’s more terrifying – watching your child scream down the street on wheels at great speed hoping they’ll come to a halt safely or shopping for safety-conscious products for such an activity.
I love the look of balance bikes. They’re undeniably cool though I can’t help but think they have a limited life span. After all, sooner or later pedals will be required. Traditionally, the introduction of pedals means having to buy a complete new bike but no more. Now you can have both styles in one … [Read more.]
At my local farmers’ market recently, I watched a family arrive on bikes. The father’s bike had one of those large, low to the ground capsules on the front and his two small children were sitting inside. Half an hour later (and a fair bit of swearing from the dad’s direction as he fiddled around … [Read more.]
In August this year I will have been writing for Babyology for three years! So many wonderful objects have come to my attention in that time that I almost didn’t know where to start when considering my five favourite posts. So I turned to my personal passions of edgy art and design, baby naming and … [Read more.]

Have you ever had bamboo go crazy in your garden? My parents planted some along the side of our house when I was little and seemingly overnight it was a bamboo forest. My dad spent the next five years trying to get rid of it. Bamboo belongs to the grass family, grows quickly (it can … [Read more.]

I remember when bike helmets first came in and how utterly horrified I was by the look of them. Gone were my days of carefree ‘wind in the hair’ bike rides. For an Eighties kid, it was a lot to get used to and, as an image-conscious teen, the way those helmets looked was of … [Read more.]
I first discovered the Taga pram back in December 2008 and have been following it closely ever since. I love the idea of a pram that converts into a bicycle and back again – very ‘Jetsons’, if you ask me.
Balance bikes have become a huge hit all over the world but here’s one with an edge. A British pop-meets-mod edge to be precise and it doesn’t matter if you prefer the Beatles or the Spice Girls, your tot is going to love this set of wheels!
The wind is in my hair, the sun glints off the water and the kids are rosy cheeked and laughing, enjoying the brisk autumn air as we cycle to kindergarten. Actually, that’s the ‘hip mother living by a canal in the heart of Amsterdam’ version of my life which is not entirely accurate.
For little cruisers who don’t like taking a back seat, check out the iBert.
When I was little, summer twilight hours were spent cruising the street on our bikes with other kids from the neighbourhood. And nothing said more about you than your bike accessories – a basket with plastic flowers, handlebar streamers, Spokey-Dokes, or a cool seat like the fancy orange glitter and white vinyl trim on my … [Read more.]
My oldest two boys learnt to ride the traditional way – training wheels and lots of ‘Mulga Bill’ moments. They were both about to start school before they mastered their bikes. In contrast, my third son started on a balance bike when he was three years old. By the time he was four he was … [Read more.]
