I have a new theme song to be played on all school pick-ups and drop-offs – it’s Minivan Hot Rod by The Jimmies and I’ll be playing it loud and proud as I pull my eight-seater into the school parking lot.
The Jimmies mix things up on their latest album, Practically Ridiculous. Fans can rest assured that the new album is still packed with The Jimmies trademark rock-pop sound but they also show off some sultry swing in Fine Art, rap in Wash Up and country twang in tracks Bonfire and Toothless Lament.
Minivan Hot Rod is mash-up of techno-meets-Devo and Madonna ‘Vogue’-style lyrics delivered with staccato punch -
“Climb in and buckle up tight, You’re in for the ride of your life, You don’t have to wait until you’re older, You’ll see you already have a cup holder.”
My favourite song is the sweet and pure Tea Party – a catchy tune, fun backing vocals and about a topic that is close to kids’ hearts – holding a tea party -
“We won’t have biscuits, tea or milk, Just the finest water from the sink…”
Mention must be made of the closing track, Kids Wanna Rock. Listen closely and you’ll discover it’s a gentle poke at all those classical music albums made for babies. So in closing (and to borrow some lyrics from Kids Wanna Rock), “If kids wanna rock, let ‘em rock…” with this mighty fine album from The Jimmies.
Practically Ridiculous is $16.99 via iTunes or can be purchased directly through The Jimmies.
