The Gruffalo comes to Sydney

gruffalo 04 The Gruffalo comes to Sydney

We’re big fans of The Gruffalo at our house, simply because the story strikes the perfect balance between a little bit scary and exciting (this is technically known as ‘scary fun’).

We were fortunate enough to see The Gruffalo live performance last year in Melbourne. It was exceptional – minimal sets and actors that were extraordinarily expressive and very funny brought this much loved book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler to life.

If you are not familiar with the story, it’s about an imaginative mouse who uses her wits to survive when she encounters three hungry predators – a fox, an owl and a snake. Rather than becoming the main course of their next meal, Mouse kills their appetites with stories of an imaginary monster friend. Little does mouse know, she will have to escape the jaws of this faux protector as well.

Sydney kids can soon enjoy a live performance of The Gruffalo when it comes to the Sydney Opera House from 24 September to 8 October.

The show is suitable for children aged three years and over. Tickets are $27 each and can be purchased online directly from the Sydney Opera House.

If you want to brush up on The Gruffalo before the show, you’ll find the storybook at Fishpond for $7.57 with free delivery.

  5. We have the book. It was sent to us by some friends in the UK. I highly recommend it. We started reading it to our daughter when she was about a month old. One day my husband read it to her and she got a bit unsettled so I put her to bed. I came back a few minutes later and hubby was finishing the book cause he wanted to know what happened!

  6. The kids absolutely loved this when they saw it in Brisbane. They still talk about it! The cast were so talented and the story telling very clever. Do yourself a favor and buy the sound track if you go to the show because the songs are very catchy.

  7. We love the Gruffalo so much in our family that we had a Gruffalo birthday party for my 4 year old son. We made costumes, had gruffalo food, inspired by the book, had Gruffalo party favours and put on a play!
