Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious – Mary Poppins comes to Melbourne

My six-year-old son came home from school one day to report that a friend in his class “…knew a word with twelve letters!” It must have brought out the six-year-old in me because I said “Well I know one that’s longer – supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!” He was impressed, very impressed. As Melbourne audiences will be when Mary Poppins the musical hits town.

The Mary Poppins stage musical is a fusion of the classic Walt Disney film and the books by P.L.Travers. Expect full Mary Poppins magic – her bottomless carpetbag, walking statues, ladders to the stars, dancing on the rooftops of London, toys that come to life and, of course, riding the carousel.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious is just one of the many songs that audiences will enjoy – the musical is packed with stage hits and I’m quite certain the lyrics will come flooding back as soon as you hear Chim Chim Cher-Ee, A Spoonful of Sugar, Jolly Holiday and Feed the Birds.

Mary Poppins has been a hit on Broadway and in the West End and now finally comes to Australia. It opens in July 2010 at Her Majesty’s Theatre, Melbourne. Tickets are on sale now.

  1. A few months ago, we got tickets to see this and I can’t wait! Mary Poppins was my favourite growing up and it’s going to be great to pass on the love to my own daughter.
